Damon Albarn Apologizes After Suggesting Taylor Swift Doesn't Write Her Own Songs

Damon Albarn Apologizes After Suggesting Taylor Swift Doesn't Write Her Own Songs

Damon Albarn has apologized to Taylor Swift over his comment that she "doesn't write her own songs."

The Blur lead singer made the comment in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.

When the interviewer pointed out that Swift co-writes her music, Albarn replied, "That doesn't count. I know what co-writing is. Co-writing is very different to writing. I'm not hating on anybody, I'm just saying there's a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes."

Taylor replied to his comments on Twitter, tweeting, "I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don't have to like my songs but it's really f-ed up to try and discredit my writing. WOW."

Albarn, who has a history of making controversial criticism of pop stars, later apologized to Swift for his statement.

"I totally agree with you. I had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait. I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand," he tweeted in reply to Swift's tweet.

Kelsea Ballerini Debuts Unreleased Song At Grand Ole Opry

Kelsea Ballerini Debuts Unreleased Song At Grand Ole Opry

Kelsea Ballerini debuted an unreleased new song on Saturday night, playing it live on the Grand Ole Opry stage.

The country singer told the audience that she is in the early stages of making her new album and sought their feedback about including the song.

"This is a song that I'm really proud of," she said. "Maybe if you like it, I'll put it on the album."

Ballerini said the untitled song's wisdom about finding happiness comes from a new perspective that she discovered during the forced lockdown caused by the pandemic.

"I'm finding is what I think probably a lot of us have found: In the last couple of years ... as we've kind of been forced to step back and look at our lives and had a lot of time to do that, it's made you kind of look at what you have differently," Ballerini said.

She added, "And for me, I've started to really appreciate the little things a lot more."

Eric Church Pays Tribute To Meat Loaf With 'I'd Do Anything For Love' Cover

Eric Church Pays Tribute To Meat Loaf With 'I'd Do Anything For Love' Cover

Eric Church performed a cover of "I Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" during his stop at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Saturday (January 22), paying tribute to Meat Loaf, who passed away on Thursday (January 20) at age 74.

Church and his band were at Little Caesars Arena as part of the Gather Again Tour. Church, who had the over 16,000-person crowd singing the late musician's 1993 comeback hit along with him, finished his version, pointing towards heaven.

"I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)," the opening track and lead single from Meat Loaf's sixth album, Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, was the singer's first and only Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 of his career.

During the show on Saturday, Church also honored Bob Seger, a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer from Detroit, who Church opened for in 2006 after being kicked off a Rascal Flatts tour.

"He saved my career," Church told the crowd. "I would not be standing here if it was not for Bob Seger."

Church performed two tracks by the hometown hero, including "Get Out Of Denver" and "Ramblin' Gamblin Man."

Midland Share Video For 'Sunrise Tells The Story'

Midland Share Video For 'Sunrise Tells The Story'

Midland recently released a music video for "Sunrise Tells The Story," a single from their The Last Resort EP.

The visual, directed by Cameron Duddy, offers a different spin on a song about how people find each other in complicated and not-so-complicated times.

The clip brings out the trio's wry humor, including a bit on the pronunciation of Mark Wystrach's name, as well as the confession the singer has developed real feelings for "Janie," the commander's daughter.

"We've always loved pop culture," says bassist/harmony singer Duddy, "and the way it threads through how people live. Done properly, it becomes what people reference in their lives. and when we were trying to think of how to represent this song, we wanted something more than just the obvious reference to a guy and a girl getting together. We hope this brings the song to life in a fun way for everyone."

"We wanted to show people our own dynamic, too. How do you show our friendship in a way that's not just a bunch of guys on the road?" adds guitarist/vocalist Jess Carson.

"We hope that shines through and makes it a fun one for our fans to watch. We love the way it turned out. It's a lot of fun and just shows the three of us being us. It's not so serious or so much a sexy video. If there's anyone who's going to be a little fast and loose at a party, no matter where, it's us.So, mission accomplished. Hope everyone enjoys it," the trio said.

Aaron Raitiere, Jessi Alexander and Jess Carson co-wrote "Sunrise Tells the Story."

The video, featuring footage from Bryan's childhood, was directed by Shaun Silva.

Speaking about the video, Bryan said, "When I saw the footage of my boys with both their grandfathers and then the closeup clip of my brother basically looking at me, it was so overwhelming."
