Morgan Wallen has been ruled ineligible to compete in individual artist categories at this year’s CMA Awards.

The CMA Board of Directors have voted to amend Morgan Wallen’s 2021 Awards eligibility over an incident in January in which he used the “N-word” with friends as they were entering his Nashville home. TMZ released a video of the incident that went viral.

Wallen will not be eligible for nomination in the individual artist categories – Entertainer and Male Vocalist of the Year.

However, his nominations will be accepted in the best Single, Song, Album, Musical Event, and Music Video of the Year categories, “so as not to limit opportunity for other credited collaborators,” the Country Music Association said.

Wallen was CMA’s new artist of the year in 2020.

The 55th annual CMA Awards show is scheduled for November.

Despite being a finalist in six categories, Wallen was excluded from the Billboard Music Awards held on Sunday.

The country music singer and songwriter was also disqualified from all the industry-voted categories in the ACM Awards last month.
