Kelly Clarkson covered My Chemical Romance‘s “Welcome to the Black Parade” during the “Kellyoke” segment of the episode of “The Kelly Clarkson” Show on Thursday (November 11).

Clarkson’s version of “Welcome to the Black Parade” clocked just over a minute and a half as against the original, which clocks five minutes and eleven seconds. However, the cover still brought out all the essence of the song, including the soaring harmonies.

“Welcome to the Black Parade,” which is from MCR’s 2006 album The Black Parade, is the band’s only top 10 hit so far on the Billboard Hot 100.

My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way reminisced on the track last month, saying it was inspired by “the triumph of the human spirit over darkness.”

He also called it “the hardest [song] to finish” on ‘The Black Parade,’ and noted that it was almost cut from the album’s tracklisting.

Clarkson recently covered tracks by the likes of Radiohead, The Weeknd, Depeche Mode, Olivia Rodrigo and Charli XCX in her “Kellyoke” series.
