Jason Isbell’s Houston Show Cancelled Amid Dispute Over Health Protocols

Jason Isbell‘s show in Houston this week was canceled after the venue-owner “flat-out refused” to comply with the singer’s recently announced COVID-safe policies.

Isbell earlier this week said that strict safety measures would be in place for all his shows going forward.

According to a statement from the venue, “We are all on the same page and we agree with what Jason Isbell would like to implement, but there is a timing issue.” The statement continues, “To implement a major change in policy such as what is requested will take more time than we have.”

However, Isbell refuted those claims. “The pavilion statement is false,” he tweeted. “Live Nation, the promoter, was on board but the venue owner flat-out refused to even attempt to implement the policy.”

Isbell’s strict new protocols require attendees to bring proof of vaccination or a negative test report within the past three days to attend all shows, indoors or out.

“Tomorrow’s Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit show at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Houston, TX is CANCELLED,” a statement from the promoter reads. “Unfortunately, the venue was not willing to comply with the band’s updated Health and Safety standards.”

“We are fully supportive of Jason Isbell’s decision to require fans to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test for entry to his show,” the promoter said. “We also encourage everyone who can to get vaccinated as that is the best way for us all to take care of each other and get back to doing what we love.”
