Jason Aldean‘s “Try That In A Small Town” has reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated August 5.

“Try That In A Small Town” topped the chart a week after making its debut at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 amid controversy over the song’s message.

“Try That In A Small Town” was released to country radio in May as the lead single off Aldean’s upcoming eleventh studio album.

Its music video, released on July 14, had raised controversy as it featured footage of Black Lives Matter police protests and an American flag burning. The video was recorded at the site of two 20th century incidents – a mob lynching of a black teenager and a race riot.

The song earned 30.7 million streams and 8.8 million radio airplay audience impressions in the July 21-27 charting week, according to Luminate.

“Try That In A Small Town” also tops the Digital Song Sales chart.

With Morgan Wallen‘s “Last Night” ranked at No. 2 and Luke Combs‘ “Fast Car” at No. 3, it marked a unique week in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as country hits monopolized the first three positions in a single week for the first time.

The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data.
