Dierks Bentley and Billy Strings have teamed up on “High Note,” a song from Bentley’s upcoming tenth album, due out next year.

“I’ll be holed up in the basement with two very special guests/A big ol’ stack of Flatt & Scruggs and a bag of Willie’s best,” Bentley sings. In the chorus, Strings adds high harmonies as the two sing about “goin’ out on a high note, like a tenor in an old hillbilly band.”

The orchestra features Jerry Douglas on dobro and Sam Bush on mandolin. Strings and Bryan Sutton strum the guitar.

The video for the song shows the singers gather at Nashville’s Station Inn, the lone structure that remains in a bombed-out wasteland, and spend time doing improvised solos.

“Bryan Sutton first tipped me off to Billy Strings about seven years ago mentioning that the future of bluegrass was in good hands,” said Bentley. “I was totally blown away the first time I saw him. I’ve cut songs like these since my first record, and I knew I wanted to have him on this one, I’m such a huge fan.”

He added, “It was a lot of fun to have him, Jerry, Sam and Bryan all passing licks around.having them all on this record means a lot to me personally.”

Bentley co-produced the track with Ross Copperman, Jon Randall and F. Reid Shippen. The singer previously released “Gold” from the upcoming album.
